Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the potential for root resorption in patients treated orthodontically by combining some orthodontic techniques or mechanics. It was observed that there are several factors related to anatomical, physiological and genetic variables, magnitude of forces, interval of application of forces and treatment time. Resorptions are commonly found in patients who have undergone orthodontic treatment, but when properly indicated and with adequate forces, they do not compromise the function or longevity of the teeth. Therefore, after a careful search for the most recent articles and reports in the literature, we carried out a review of the causes of risk that can lead to root resorption in orthodontic movements, although the latter can happen unpredictably. Therefore, it is extremely important that a careful and judicious diagnosis is made through anamnesis and radiographic examinations.
