Self-ligating brackets have been the option of choice in orthodontic treatments due to the results and reduced consultation time. Self-ligating brackets differ between active and passive, where each one has an indication for better performance and better torque control. The purpose of this study is to present a literature review regarding the use of self-ligating brackets and torque control in the completion of cases. Torque is a twist in the wire around its long axis, this is done to control the vestibule position-lingual of the root, through the use of wires with a rectangular section. The rectangular wire does not find a point of tangency but rather a surface relationship. Therefore, the use of the rectangular wire, as well as the torque incorporated into it, is essential for an adequate orthodontic finish.
