MARPE: a maxillary expansion alternative

Abstract

Maxillary deficiency is a common problem in orthodontics and rapid maxillary expansion is the therapy of choice for treatment. With the use of MARPE, we optimize the potential for bone expansion and reduce undesirable effects such as tooth tipping. Through exams and digital orthodontics, a good individualized planning can be carried out, minimizing risks and obtaining greater security in the execution of the technique. This work aims to carry out a literature review on the MARPE technique and its indications. It is concluded that more studies are necessary, however, success of the MARPE technique is already observed when it is well indicated.
