The anterior open bite can be defined as the presence of a deficiency in the vertical contact between the incisal edges of the maxillary and mandibular anterior teeth. The etiology of anterior open bite is multifactorial and is associated with genetics, such as heredity and environmental factors, such as mouth breathing, sucking habits, abnormal tongue size, among others. Several treatment methods have been used for anterior open bite correction: palatal braces, Bionator, lingual spurs, combined headgear, temporary anchorage devices. Treatment should be started as soon as possible to obtain greater chances of success, and it is important to associate orthodontists with surgeons, otolaryngologists, speech therapists and psychologists.
