Dental erosion is the tooth surface dissolution by exposure to extrinsic or intrinsic acids. The constant erosion episodes cause the tooth to lose its integrity, presenting lesions that initially reach the enamel, but can extend to the dentin. In the initial stage, treatment is performed with fluoride anti-erosion agents and minimally invasive restorations. The more advanced stages require direct and indirect resin and indirect ceramic restorations, and may require aesthetic and functional rehabilitation. The objective of this work is to review the current literature on the topic of dental erosion, pointing out the etiology, clinical aspects of diagnosis and main forms of treatment.
