Hemifacial spasm is a disorder of unilateral and disordered involuntary movement of the muscles of the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the face that affects mainly the periorbital region and spreads to the other muscles, causing asymmetries, generating discomfort and low self-esteem, thus also affecting the quality of life of those who live with this dystonia. Among the treatments available to improve the clinical picture, botulinum toxin type A, originated from the bacterium called Clostridium botulinum, has already been used for a long time, and is also proving to be a very effective and less invasive alternative compared to the use of medication and surgical treatment.
