To analyze the therapeutic effects and the possibilities of applying flat tracks in the treatment of crossbite, with emphasis on their functional and orthodontic implications. The study consists of an integrative literature review, through articles published between 2017 and 2024, in addition to the analysis of clinical cases, focusing on studies that explored the application of flat tracks in pediatric patients. The search for articles was performed digitally, in the BVS, LILACS, MEDLINE and SciELO databases. The results indicated that flat tracks provided significant improvements in terms of facial symmetry, occlusal balance and functional stability, mainly in initial facial growth initiatives. Some studies also report challenges related to complex asymmetries and the need for adaptations in the treatment protocol. Flat tracks are effective, but their application must be carefully monitored, especially in more complex cases. The combined use with other orthopedic therapies can improve the results, and it is important to consider the individuality of the patient. Flat tracks are a useful approach in functional orthodontics, especially for children, but their success depends on accurate assessment and continuous follow-up. Combination with other therapies may be advantageous to achieve better long-term clinical results.
