Anterior open bite is one of the main malocclusions, characterized by compromising both aesthetics and function, in addition to causing dental and skeletal alterations. It is a malocclusion characterized by the lack of contact between the upper and lower anterior teeth, with high prevalence in children during the mixed dentition phase, especially in those with deleterious oral habits (digit sucking, pacifier use, mouth breathing, and atypical swallowing). The severity of the effects of these habits depends on their intensity, frequency, and duration. Early treatment is crucial, particularly during craniofacial growth, and aims to correct the harmful habits. Orthodontic appliances are used to correct the condition and aim to modify tongue posture. Accurate identification of the causative factors, combined with a multidisciplinary approach involving dentists, otolaryngologists, and speech therapists, enhances the chances of success and stability of the treatment.
