Abstract

The use of bisphosphonates, drugs widely prescribed for the treatment of metabolic bone diseases, has been associated with complications in the osseointegration of dental implants, increasing the failure rate of these procedures. This study aimed to analyze the influence of bisphosphonates on osseointegration and the success of dental implants. The research is justified by the need to establish safer clinical protocols for patients who use this medication and require oral rehabilitation. The methodology adopted was based on a review of the literature and comparative analysis of available clinical studies. The results demonstrated that prolonged use of bisphosphonates compromises bone remodeling, reducing vascularization and increasing the risk of failure in osseointegration. It is concluded that the adoption of specific therapeutic strategies can minimize the negative impacts of this medication in Implantology, highlighting the importance of multidisciplinary planning.
