Implants have been used as an important treatment option, and similarly, short dental implants can be an alternative for patients with medical, psychological or financial restrictions that make bone graft procedures impossible, for example, which is necessary in some cases. In this sense, the general objective of this literature review was to analyze what the different authors mention regarding specific aspects of short implants, such as size, survival, longevity, and influence of the crown-implant ratio on the short implant. The specific objectives were to describe what the scientific literature deals with the size of short implants; compare what the authors treat about the survival and longevity of short implants; discuss the results of research evaluating the influence of the crown-implant ratio on the short implant. The results showed high survival rates of short implants, which measure between 4 and 10 mm, with no significant influence of the crown-implant ratio on the survival of these implants.
