Several techniques are used to maintain bone volumes in the alveolar ridge after extraction and before implant placement. This review of the literature sought to show the aspects of alveolar healing after extraction and to check whether dental implant placement is possible. The study shows that there is evidence that the procedures for preservation and maintenance of the rim are effective in limiting the dimensional loss of the post-extraction rim with the use of biomaterial. The work intends to present a current literature review.
