This paper presents and discusses factors, aspects and processes that influence the satisfaction of patients with total dental prosthesis. For this purpose, a narrative literature review was performed, using the following search terms: total prosthesis, oral functions, satisfaction, and quality of life. Searches were made on Google Scholar and the Virtual Health Library. The inclusion criteria were articles made available in full, published in the last 10 years, in portuguese or english. Those who escaped the central theme of this review were excluded. The researched literature pointed out that the demand for this type of prosthesis has decreased, while the advances in Dentistry, especially in the rehabilitation area and in Implantology, have highlighted protocol-type prostheses. The majority of the edentulous population, users of the Unified Health System, still opt for conventional full dentures, which are among the categories with the greatest access by the population.
