The aesthetics of the smile is subject to several factors, among which, it stands out: color, texture and shape of the teeth, the architecture and coloring of the apparent gingival tissue are added. Thus, the importance of idealization and the prediction of all the surgical and prosthetic factors involved in orthodontic treatment are of great importance, seeking to suppress problems that can cause damage to health as well as compromising dental aesthetics. The objective of the work is: To describe the importance of planning for adequacy of the prosthetic space in orthodontic treatment, describe the biological foundations that justify the use of pre-prosthetic orthodontic treatment, characterize some clinical steps in the adequacy of space in orthodontic treatment, based on scientific evidence and the principles of dentistry. The research technique used was based on books, scientific articles, master's and doctoral theses and dissertations, with a focus on Orthodontics and Dental Prosthesis. In orthodontics offices, the number of adult patients who have multiple tooth loss is increasing. In addition to providing an aesthetic problem for the patient, this dental absence prevents prosthetic rehabilitation of lost teeth, as the interocclusal space for crown reconstruction it becomes insufficient, requiring an adaptation of the prosthetic space prior to the rehabilitation treatment, with which we have achieved an improvement both in aesthetics, as in function and consequently in the longevity of the entire rehabilitation treatment.
