Lip filling with hyaluronic acid (HA) is one of the most sought after procedures in recent years as the lips play a significant role within facial aesthetics. The search for positive changes is not restricted only to the teeth, but also the harmony and symmetry of the lip and the periooral region. HA is present in our body and is responsible for the volume, support, hydration and elasticity of the skin. Several methods and products can be used to improve lip aesthetics, among them the most common is the use of fillers with HA, capable of promoting lip contour and volume, bringing an air of youthfulness to patients. Thus, the objective of this article is to present a review of the literature of the last five years (2016-2021) on the topic, to bring information about the materials used, techniques and care treated to avoid adverse effects in lip filling procedures with hyaluric acid. The research technique used was a bibliographic survey in the PubMed database to identify articles published in the period from 2016 to 2021 that addressed the topic under analysis. It was concluded that filling out with HA is an effective, safe method with few adverse effects as long as there is: anatomical knowledge, technical skill, knowledge of the product that will be used and respect for the individual characteristics of each patient.
