This is a literature review in the field of implant dentistry and implant platforms. It is known that performing implants with prior tooth extraction causes several changes in the patient's hard and soft tissues, and it is essential to search for methods aimed at reducing these interferences, mentioning, in this scenario, the exchange of platform with reduced diameters, which can be an effective solution. Thus, the objective of the study is to analyze the use of the Switching platform with a reduction in the abutment platform and what would be the advantages arising from this in relation to the regular abutment platform. The adopted methodology is characterized by a literature review, whose sample consists of twenty scientific articles, national and international, published between the years 2011 to 2019, collected in SciELO, PubMed and MEDLINE databases. The results showed unanimity in the exchange of the platform, and the option with a reduced diameter of the abutment promotes an improvement in the reduction of bone resorption, in addition to having an incidence of positive results in aesthetics and primary stability, concluding, in the end, that it is a question of an effective procedure.
