With predictability and longevity related to osseointegration, treatment with dental implants has become a reality in the dental clinic. Seeking a rehabilitation that seeks to associate aesthetic and functional factors in the best possible way, many professionals question whether implant-supported screwed or cemented prostheses have advantages over each other. In this context, this study aimed to review the literature on these two retention systems for implant prostheses: cemented and screwed, making comparisons between the two types. It can be concluded that the choice between the restoration over screw-retained implant-supported prosthesis and the restoration over cemented implant-supported prosthesis may be of personal interest to the professional or the patient, or even for specific clinical situations, as both models have advantages, disadvantages, indications and contraindications that must be known and taken into account for the successful treatment of each particular case.
