Abstract

The traction of impacted canines is a challenge for dentists and can significantly affect dental appearance and function. Various techniques have been proposed for treatment, but the VISTA Protocol (Very Innovative System for Traction Aid) has stood out for its efficiency and speed in traction. This protocol consists of a removable orthodontic device that is fixed to the impacted canine and allows for controlled and gradual traction. The aim of this study was to develop a literature review on the VISTA Protocol for the traction of unerupted canines. For the development of the literature review, forty scientific articles published in the databases PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were selected according to inclusion criteria: studies addressing the VISTA Protocol for impacted canine traction, published in portuguese and english, with experimental design or case reports. Studies have shown that the VISTA Protocol can be feasible and effective in the traction of impacted canines in individuals with different types of malocclusion, presenting satisfactory results in terms of tooth movement and treatment time. Moreover, the protocol is relatively easy to apply and has low rates of complications and side effects. Thus, the Milani Protocol becomes a safe and comfortable surgical guide for the patient. However, canine impaction remains a challenge for orthodontists, indicating the need for further clinical studies to assess the effectiveness of the protocol in different populations and in the long term.
