Endodontic treatment aims to allow the tooth to remain in the oral cavity, exercising its proper functions in physiology, without becoming a cause of disease in periradicular tissues. In this sense, this literature review aimed to analyze the effectiveness of ultrasound in the different stages of root canal treatment, in order to provide greater safety and greater efficacy in the success of endodontic treatment. Articles in PubMed and Crochane Library were searched in which they addressed the topic of ultrasound in endodontics. Ultrasound proved to be effective both in endodontic access, in the location of canals, removal of intraradicular pins and fractured instruments, as in the disinfection of root canals, removal of gutta percha, in endodontic retreatment, proving that its use in most of cases is safe and effective.
