Root resorption: causes and consequences

The present text aims to carry out a bibliographic survey of authors, texts, articles and documents that refer to root resorption in orthodontic treatment, in order to identify and list the possible etiological factors that cause it, enabling prevention through planning individualized, presenting in the external root resorptions a protocol of radiographic control. The text intends to show, through bibliographic research, the definitions of root resorption, based on authors, texts, books and scholars on the subject, which is of extreme importance to all individuals. In the course of the text, it is pointed out that root resorption can occur in about 6 and 10% of patients even without having underfone orthodontic treatment, taking into account etiological factors that indicate as a result: age, gender, or use of orthodontic appliances. Thus, apical root resorption can occur both during and after treatment, and can be multifactorial, that is, by extrinsic, local or mechanical factors that Interact with each other, and permanent teeth can undergo an inflammatory and painful process. It is up to the orthodontist to carry out a detailed anamnesis as prevention an planning of individualized clinical treatment according to the risk factors that each case presents.
