Facial appearance goes beyond aesthetics, but also reveals physical and emotional well-being, youthfulness and self-confidence. Aesthetic procedures then appear to reestablish facial harmony and natural beauty with non-invasive treatments. The enzymatic lipo of the double chin is one of those procedures that gives the patient a reduction in the volume of submental adipose tissue together with the correction of the facial shape of this region. Therefore, the present study aimed to conduct a literature review about this procedure in which deoxycholic acid was used. It was possible to identify that the treatment of reduction of submental fat from sodium deoxycholate, a product accepted by the FDA, is an effective procedure, capable of reducing the adipose volume and giving elasticity to the tissue, safe, with few side effects and fast. Its mechanism of action is due to the breakdown of adipocytes present in the dermis, preventing them from producing and storing fat inside. In addition, a local inflammatory process is caused which, in addition to other effects, causes a stimulation of collagen production and deposition. Still, it is important to highlight the need for full anatomical knowledge of the region in which it is worked, and the knowledge of techniques and material proven to be safe for its realization.
